If you own an old Porsche, let us say two things: First, we’re jealous, and second, in order to keep it running right, you should regularly change your oil. But you already knew both of those things. Here’s what you may not know: Porsche thinks whatever oil you’ve been using is junk. Okay, so the sports-car maker doesn’t specifically call out regular motor oils as useless sludge, but it has just released its own line of lubricants specifically designed for classic air-cooled 356s, 914s, and 911s.
An automaker offering such a product for its own classic rides is pretty cool, if you ask us. Naturally, the oil is claimed to be specifically formulated to meet the unique heat properties of air-cooled, flat-layout engines, as well as the cars’ unique usage profiles, which often includes sitting for long periods of time.

The oil will be available in two weights, with the heavier, synthetic-blend 20W-50 being offered for the 356, 914, and early 911s with engine displacements up to 2.7 liters, and the lighter, full-synthetic 10W-60 oil targeted at later 911s with engines displacing 3.0 liters or more. While not as important as the performance of the oil itself, the packaging is also absolutely freaking awesome. So there’s that.
