On October 5, 1979, stuntman Kenny Powers attempted to jump the Saint Lawrence River, a fiasco that was years in the making and cost in excess of a million dollars. From today’s vantage point, the notion of traveling more than a mile in the air in an automobile is out-crazied only by the choice of vehicle, a Lincoln Continental Mark IV (jet-powered, natch) that broke apart and crashed into the river seconds after leaving the launch ramp.
