Land Rover has released another video—here’s the first—of the high-performance Range Rover Sport that will be produced by Jaguar Land Rover’s new Special Vehicle Operations division.
We now also have confirmation of its name: It will be called the Range Rover Sport SVR, with company insiders indicating that the same three-letter badge will be used for ultimate-performance versions of both Jaguars and Land Rovers. Although the car in the video is still wearing a disguise, we’ve also learned that it will be shown—again in camouflage—at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in England.
Mechanical details haven’t been officially confirmed, but we can tell you that the SVR will be powered by a brawnier version of the 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 that’s familiar from the top end of both the Jaguar and Land Rover ranges. We believe this will have a similar output to the wicked F-type Project 7 we told you about this week, which means something on the order of 567 horsepower. Our inside sources confirm that the SVR Rangie also will get major suspension modifications intended to turn it into a serious rival for the Porsche Cayenne Turbo.
We’ll bring you more pictures of it after its debut at Goodwood this weekend—in the meantime, check out the video below.
