We have to commend the design team at Lego—it would appear they’re a fanatical, car-crazy bunch. They’re also patient, because it’s been an agonizing three years since the too-cool-for-school 1962 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van and the hyper-technical Mercedes-Benz Unimog U400 were released. But the wait for a new kit based on a real vehicle was worth it: The latest slice of buildable hotness is an almost absurdly detailed classic Mini Cooper.

If you thought the 1334-piece VW Camper kit was impressively complex, the smaller Mini is created using nearly as many pieces—1077, to be exact. That was by design, however, as the team wanted to celebrate the real Mini’s clever space efficiency by cramming as much detail into the Lego version as possible. There’s a spare tire, a miniscule 1.3-liter four-cylinder, and even a little picnic set in the boot of the British Racing Green Mini. The kit hits stores on August 1. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but figure on it costing at least $100.
