Screams from thousands of Mustang loyalists could be heard last week as rumors swirled that the 2015 Ford Mustang would weigh 200–300 pounds more than the last-generation car.
Thanks to a leak of information published at Mustang6G , we now know that Ford says the upcoming V-8 GT model equipped with a six-speed manual will start at 3704 pounds, just 86 more than it claimed for a base 2014 manual GT. It’s also a mere 54 more than what our scales registered for our long-term 2013 manual GT.
If that isn’t enough to mitigate the anguish, the base 2015 V-6 model with a six-speed manual will come in just 25 pounds more than Ford’s claims for a commensurate 2014. Further, the V-6 number of 3526 pounds is actually four fewer than the 2013 six-speed V-6 Premium we weighed. Claimed weights for the automatic-transmission models show similarly restrained gains.
Dimensionally, the 2015 Mustang rides on the same wheelbase as before, but is is 0.2 inch shorter overall, 1.4 inches lower, and 1.5 inches wider.

The full range of specs and figures—including those for the new-for-’15 EcoBoost model—are shown below, and supposedly come from the new car’s dealer manual. And while the curb weights are still heftier than we enthusiasts would like, we’re happy to see that Dearborn was able to keep things basically in check. Now we await word as to whether Ford will be able to pull off a similar feat for—or even lighten—the next Shelby GT500.
