This is our first look at the new Mercedes-Benz C-class estate. These reportedly official pictures have appeared in the Australian press overnight, ahead of the car's official unveiling later today.
While the front of the new model looks almost identical to the recently launched C-class saloon, the new estate is substantially different – in terms of design – as the rear. Some reports suggest the available seats-up storage in the new C-class estate has grown to 490 litres, some 10 litres more than the outgoing car. Its rear seats should be able to split and fold forward to create a larger loading area. Reports also suggest the new car measures 7702mm long by 1810mm wide, with a wheelbase of 2480mm.
Engines available at launch are likely to mimic those of the C-class saloon, but a new C300 hybrid version, which features an electric motor coupled to a turbodiesel engine, should also be available. A full plug-in hybrid version is scheduled to appear in 2015, with that model expected to average around 94mpg.
A twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine should also be offered in C400 versions, with as much as 362bhp and 369lb ft of torque on offer.
Inside, we can see the cabin of the C-class estate is based heavily on that of the saloon. The latest version of Mercedes' Comand infotainment system is clearly visible, alongside the same touchpad controller featured in the C-class and V-class models.
The new estate should also introduce a new range of connected services, say reports, dubbed Connect Me. The system was first shown at the Geneva motor show earlier this year, and grants users the ability to call emergency services following an accident. The system should also tap into the car's trip computer to deliver information on economy and servicing details.
Official information on the new Mercedes-Benz C-class estate is due to be revealed at 12.30pm.
