With Austria’s Wörthersee Festival happening this weekend, the onslaught of VW Group specials is at full pitch. And while a speedster based on Volkswagen’s Design Vision GTI Concept that you’ll be able to drive on your television set is a very neat thing, Audi’s S3-based Clubsport is more to our taste, offering hints of what we might see in the upcoming RS3.
We already ran down the S3 Clubsport’s features, but for the click-averse, salient points include carbon-ceramic brakes, 275-section tires on 21-inch wheels, and a wholly worked version of VW Group’s turbocharged inline-five that cranks out 525 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. Take this smallish saloon lightly at your own peril.

To mark the car’s debut this weekend, Audi has released a video of the build process. There’re no talking heads in interesting eyeglasses yapping about quantified dynamism or percentage-increases of horsepowers, just some very serious Germans getting down to business with tools. The turbo five probably sounds like a monster on the track, but it’s muted by some very loud electronic music and we were too distracted by the massive, blinky CHMSL on the substantial rear wing’s lip to remember its nuances with any clarity. When we went back and tried to listen, it was just a lot of racket made with MIDI. So like, thanks for that, Ingolstadt.
