If you’re like us, the first thing that comes to mind when someone says “All Terrain” isn’t a special off-road package for GMC pickups. Call us crazy, but we just think of the tire type—which we suppose would be useful for any GMC truck. Anyway, the All Terrain word association game has a new answer, because GMC is expanding the All Terrain package’s availability from the Sierra 1500 to the 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty models for 2015.
Just as on the Sierra 1500, the HD trucks’ All Terrain gear includes everything from the Z71 suspension package—Rancho twin-tube shocks, a skid plate, and hill-descent control—plus a load of exterior and interior dress-up bits. All Terrain–exclusive items include a chrome grille surround, mirror caps, body trim, and lower front bumper, as well aluminum underbody panels and special six-spoke 18-inch wheels. Other All Terrain goodies include LED running lights, body-colored main bumpers, carbon-fiber-look interior trim, and a standard backup camera.

Although final pricing has yet to be announced—the All Terrain package costs $2900 on 1500 models, but depending on the trim level it can require additional packages—2500HD and 3500HD buyers will need to first pony up for a four-wheel drive Double Cab or Crew Cab model in either SLE or SLT spec. After that, customers can choose to keep the standard 6.0-liter V-8 or opt for the Duramax diesel.
With all that in mind, don’t expect to pay anything less than $45,000 to get a heavy-duty All Terrain Sierra when it goes on sale this summer. In HD truck land, that’s actually not all that much money, although like most things in life, things change when taken to excess. Still, for buyers that must have the most bad-ass Sierra around, it would appear there’s no avoiding the All Terrain setup.
