Audi has unveiled its R8 Competition, a race inspired limited edition model, ahead of its public appearance at the LA motor show.
The company claims that the Competition will be its “fastest R8 ever offered”, boasting a top speed of 199mph and a claimed 0-60mph time of 3.2 seconds.
Power comes from a 5.2-litre V10 FSI engine. It produces 570bhp and is coupled to a 7-Speed S-Tronic gearbox, which sends power to all four wheels.
The R8 Competition takes its inspiration from the R8 LMS race car, featuring carbonfibre aerodynamic upgrades – including a fixed rear spoiler and a rear diffuser.
Other performance upgrades include ceramic brakes and sports exhaust with high-gloss black tail pipes. Carbonfibre trim also features on the interior panels and in the engine bay.
Customers will have the option to choose from a variety of exterior colours and wheels.
The R8 Competition will be available exclusively for the US market, with a limited run of 60 units. Deliveries are expected to begin in early 2015 but no pricing has been announced yet.
Audi look set to launch a new version of the R8 in 2015, utilising some of the tech from the new Lamborghini Huracán.
