On Monday, we presented this week’s shifter and asked you to identify the make and model of the vehicle whence it came. This week’s admittedly rare shifter proved a little too challenging, as no one correctly identified the stick as belonging to the 1967 Yenko Scepter.
The Scepter shown here was featured in—and made the cover of—our December 1967 issue. A valiant attempt at creating an American rear-engine sports car, the Scepter was created by enthusiast John Salathe in cooperation with Don Yenko, the American race car driver and creator of the Yenko Camaro. A long shot from the start, the Scepter never made production, but we applaud the guts it took to try and get it off the ground.
