Chevrolet has announced its official performance estimates for the 2015 Corvette Z06, and, uh, they don’t disappoint.
The best numbers were obtained using Z06 coupes equipped with the new eight-speed automatic transmission and the Z07 performance package, which adds Brembo carbon-ceramic brake rotors, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, and the most spoilertastic and downforce-enabling aero bits available on the Z06. (Chevy will offer a number of different aero bundles.)
Chevrolet claims the Z06 sprinted through the benchmark 0-to-60-mph measure in just 2.95 seconds, and that it annihilated the quarter-mile in an equally impressive 10.95 at 127 mph. Those who opt for the seven-speed manual transmission will have to be content with claimed 3.2- and 11.2-second (also at 127 mph) times. The car is propelled through time and space by a supercharged LT4 small-block V-8 making 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque; check out our deep dive on the engine here.
Given the automaker’s choice to report the performance results down to the hundredths of a second, it would appear that breaking the 3.0- and 11.0-second barriers with the Z06 was a top priority for the Corvette development team. There’s nothing wrong with splitting a few hairs to grab some headlines when it reflects a genuine improvement in performance—the quickest times we recorded for the C6 Z06 were 3.4 seconds to 60 and 11.6 through the quarter.
Straight-line speed can be exhilarating, but sooner or later you’re going to need to stop, either for a bathroom break, the cops, or, possibly for some donuts of the melted-rubber variety. (Or confectionary doughnuts; your call.) Whatever the case, the Z06’s claimed 60–0 stopping distance of 99.6 feet—we measure braking from 70 mph to 0, so we don’t have a comparable figure—will have your internal organs looking for escape routes. GM says it’s the top decelerative performance of any production car it has ever tested.

Speaking of bests, the Z06 Corvette is also the fastest production car to loop GM’s 2.9-mile Milford Road Course, besting the C6 Corvette ZR1’s time by a full second. The new car also clobbered the Corvette’s previous top mark for roadholding as measured by GM, with the Z06 pulling a lateral-acceleration number of 1.20 g, compared with the previous Corvette record of 1.13 g.
Yay Z06!
