They’re not Ford Custom 500s. Besides, if your remember the Custom 500, you’re likely not in the demographic for these two Fiats scheduled to hit Mopar’s SEMA booth. Then again, if you remember old Fiats, you’re probably outside the target demo, too.
The smaller of the two cars to grace the booth is the 500 Abarth Scorpion. Resplendent in an Abarthy-as-all-heck paint scheme with a big scorpion graphic draped across the hood, the little hot hatch doesn’t feature a whole lot of extra zap under its red/white skin. Because the famously snarly Abarth needed rortier exhaust, the Scorpion features a Mopar cat-back system designed to alert not just the neighbors of your arrival, but also your neighbors’ neighbors. And perhaps their neighbors, as well. Lightweight Abarth wheels round out the useful upgrades. Visually, aside from the paint, the Scorp gets smoked taillight lenses, carbon mirror caps, satin chrome trim, and a satin black rear valance. Inside, the Katzkin leather interior features embiggened scorpion logos. FCA claims the interior options are “intended for future availability through the Mopar Custom Shop.”
Like the Scorpion, the 500L Custom gets a two-tone paint job, a cat-back exhaust, and Mopar lightweight wheels. It also gets a front splitter. Because the last 500L we drove was wholly deficient when it came to front-end aero, guys. Nevertheless, Mopar claims it’s a prototype accessory. We’d love to know what the take rate will be. Once again, there’s a Katzkin interior, this time with faux-suede accents and red stitching.

500L-heads will undoubtedly rejoice, but it’s hardly the Sam Posey–evocative Challenger T/A. Perhaps the Trans-Am could find itself rebooted as an Ikea-based warehouse-racing series?
