Interested in competing on some of Europe’s greatest tracks, but don’t have the scratch to field a race team of your own? Audi’s Sport TT Cup series will follow portions of the DTM circuit in 2015, providing a one-model, six-race program for up to 24 drivers.
The series is built around spec front-wheel-drive TTs that have been made appropriately burly for competition. The sub-2500-pound coupes will run the corporate EA888 2.0-liter TFSI turbo four, in this case pushing out 310 horsepower through a standard S tronic six-speed dual-clutch (yes, automatic) transmission. (The production 2016 TTS gets 292 horsepower and weighs something like 700 pounds more.) An F1-style push-to-pass button will uncork an additional 30 horsepower for short bursts, while a cockpit-adjustable, electronically actuated limited-slip differential will allot output between the front wheels.
The series will have seats for 18 full-time drivers, with six slots reserved for rotating guest drivers. The series will race at six DTM tracks in and around Germany, with two races at each circuit.
We love the idea of spec racing series; with everyone running the same engine, chassis, and tune, true driving prowess gets to shine. And with Nürburgring 24 Hours winner Markus Winkelhock on hand to coach Sport TT Cup drivers, it could be among the best learning experiences an aspiring pro driver could ask for. If you think you have the chops, you can apply for a seat at Audi’s motorsport page.
