On Monday, we presented this week’s shifter and asked you to identify the make and model of the vehicle whence it came. Many of you figured out that the shifter in question belongs to a Ford, but no one pinpointed the exact make, model, or year. Repeat winner zphantom came the closest, however, with his guess that the shifter is from a 70′s Ford Capri, Mk II; in fact, it’s from a Mk III 1982 Ford Capri 2.8 Injection, a model which was offered in Germany only.
The Capri pictured here was featured in our January 1982 issue, amidst our Frankfurt auto show coverage. As its name implies, the Capri is powered by a 2.8-liter V-6, which eagerly pulls 6100 rpm in fourth gear. Top speed stood at an autobahn-ready 128 mph, and the coupe could hit 60 mph in 7.8 seconds.
