Mitsubishi has previewed a new concept car, which will make its debut at the Geneva motor show in March.
The concept, which is described as a “declaration of intent” for the brand, looks to be an evolution of 2013’s XR-PHEV concept and could point towards a future performance crossover which would sit below the current Outlander PHEV.
From the preview images, we can see the as-yes unnamed concept gets Mitsubishi’s large central grille design, as well as traditional SUV styling traits.
In a statement, Mitsubishi says the two-wheel drive concept is powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain, and will come with a “high-output” electric motor offering a “low environmental impact, dynamic agility and athletic design.”
The XR-PHEV concept, revealed at the Tokyo motor show in 2013, was powered by a 1.1-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine coupled to an electric motor, producing a combined output of 134bhp. The concept could return up to 68mpg, and operate on electric power alone for 53 miles.
