Subaru bosses have reportedly confirmed a second generation of the BRZ sports car will be produced.
Speaking to industry journal Automotive News, president of Subaru's parent company Fuji Heavy Industries Yasuyuki Yoshinaga confirmed a successor to the 2012 BRZ was in the works.
Responding to comments from the media which speculated about Subaru's involvement in the joint venture project with Toyota, Yoshinaga said: "It's not going to be just one generation."
The next BRZ would again likely be built with Toyota, with allocations expected to mimic those of the current car.
The collaboration would not be affected by Toyota's new partnership with BMW, which will spawn a new two-seat hybrid sports car for both parties. Toyota's version is believed to be a spiritual successor to the Supra, and was previewed with the FT-1 concept.
Subaru slashed prices of the BRZ earlier this year by £2500, bringing the cost of an entry-level model down to just £23,995. Officially, that move was put down to an improvement in exchange rates, but it was also understood to be an attempt to boost lacklustre sales - something which both the BRZ and its GT86 sister car have suffered from.
Subaru sold a total of 139 BRZs in 2013, according to SMMT data, while Toyota sold 1072 units of the GT86.
Neither Subaru or Toyota would give any official confirmation of the plan.
