Land Rover's Discovery Sport will come with a standard 5+2 seating layout when it goes on sale in the UK at the start of next year.
These official pictures show final prototypes testing ahead of a planned debut at the Paris motor show in October. The mules, clad in new, more revealing camouflage, show a third row of seats installed behind the rear bench.
The two rear-most seats are likely to be movable, folding forwards to increase load space in the rear, and could be removable altogether.
The move to offer the Discovery Sport with seven seats as standard will likely help the new model to stand out in the crowded mid-size SUV segment, currently dominated by the likes of the Audi Q5 and BMW X3.
Land Rover design boss Gerry McGovern said the car would offer "spacious load space and configurable seating, while still retaining a more compact footprint than traditional 5-seat SUVs."
The interior of the Discovery Sport has already been spied, while power is due to come from Jaguar Land Rover's new range of advanced 'Ingenium' engines. Entry-level, front-wheel drive versions of the car are expected to have a CO2 rating of less than 119g/km.
