Toyota is recalling about 423,000 Lexus sedans and convertibles from 2006–2011 for underhood fuel gaskets that could leak, resulting in a fire.
The 2006–2011 IS and GS, 2007–2010 LS, 2010 IS C, and 2008–2010 IS F have fuel lines that could have “plating particles” on their gasket-seating surfaces, which could compromise the seal between the fuel line and the fuel-pressure sensor. All model variants and engines, including the 2.5-liter V-6, 3.5-liter V-6, 4.6-liter V-8, 5.0-liter V-8, and associated hybrid trims, are included.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not yet posted the automaker’s filings, so it’s unclear when and how Toyota discovered the problem, or how many complaints it has received. Toyota said it knew of no related fires, accidents, injuries, or fatalities.
The 423,000 Lexus models in this U.S. recall are part of three separate global recalls Toyota issued this week affecting 1.67 million cars. A Toyota spokeswoman said none of the U.S. cars were affected by the other problems, which include leaking brake master cylinders and a faulty evaporative emissions system on Japanese- and European-market models.
In the Lexuses, dealers will replace the gasket, refinish the surface where the gasket sits, and reinstall the fuel-pressure sensor. In September, Toyota admitted a similar problem with leaking fuel in which end caps on one of the lines could have been poorly welded. About 20,000 2014 Toyota Avalon, Camry, Highlander, and Sienna models, as well as 2015 Lexus RX crossovers, were recalled.

Many of these Lexus models in the latest recall, mainly those with the 3.5-liter V-6, were recalled in September 2013 for problems with the variable-valve-timing gear assembly and again in July 2010 for faulty valve springs.
