As we told you back in June, Global Rallycross is preparing for a Beetle infestation. The clip below provides a closer look at VW’s super-mega-bad-ass GRC Beetle as it rips and snorts around a black lake at the hands of Tanner Foust.
The video also shows off the mega-Beetle’s startup sequence, some engine plumbing all aglow, fire-breathing exhaust pipes, and some good-ol’ slow-motion four-wheel drifts. Also, you shouldn’t call the car Herbie, apparently.
VW spokesman Mark Gillies says the video was produced by Rockstar Energy Drink, which could explain some slightly different numbers from those previously released: 540 horsepower (versus 544) and a 0-to-60 time of under two seconds (versus 2.1). Either way, it’s freaking powerful—from a 1.6-liter four!—and freaking quick.

If you want to see the Beetle GRC be all hellacious and whatnot in person, VW says it could make its racing debut as soon as the weekend of September 19–21 at the Red Bull GRC event in Los Angeles, with Scott Speed or Tanner Foust doing the driving.
