The Goodwood Revival takes place this weekend and Autocar will be there to bring you all the latest action from the iconic Goodwood motor circuit in West Sussex.
The Revival has become something of a cult favourite for car fans. Historic race cars battle it out on track, while the atmosphere of Goodwood’s glory days from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s is recreated across the site.
Many visitors also don outfits from the relevant eras, further adding to the authenticity of the event.
It’s set to be an exciting and action-packed weekend, so here’s what to keep an eye out for at the 2014 Goodwood Revival.
Jaguar will show its reborn Lightweight E-type on European soil for the first time, following on from the ca's world debut at the Pebble Beach Concours last month. Six examples will be sold for around £1 million each, completing the planned original production run of 18 cars. Each model is crafted to original specifications and is powered by a 3.8-litre straight six engine that develops 335bhp and 280lb ft.
The new Ant-Kahn sports car, which is described as an open-top reimagining of the ultra-rare Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato, is the result of a collaboration between Kahn Design and Ant Anstead, who runs niche vehicle manufacturer Evanta. The car will go on sale for £96,000 and is powered by a 6.2-litre V8 LS3 engine. A coupé model is also planned for 2015.
Earls Court motor show
The Earls Court motor show, a staple feature of the Goodwood Revival, gives visitors a chance to get up close with some of the rarest cars from the 60s. The collection celebrates the heydey of the British motor show, despite there no longer being an official modern equivalent.
Eight Le Mans winners in action
Star drivers are an annual treat at the Revival – and this year eight former Le Mans winners will be in action on track. Drivers participating include five-time winners Derek Bell and Emanuele Pirro, four-time champion Henri Pescarol, plus Andy Wallace, Jochen Mass, Richard Attwood, Mark Blundell, and 1969 winner Jackie Oliver.
Celebrating the V8
The small-block V8 engine is an American institution. This year gets its own celebration in the form of the Shelby Cup, a special race for touring cars powered by small blocks from several manufacturers. Expect classic Ford Mustangs to feature heavily, and also watch out for Marussia F1 driver Max Chilton, who’ll be piloting a 1965 Mustang alongside Fortec Motorsport boss Richard Dutton.
Gold Aston Martin DB5 up for auction
A one-off one-third-scale replica of James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 from the film Goldfinger will be put up for auction at the Revival. It's expected to fetch between £40,000-£60,000. The car, which features radio-controlled machine guns, bullet-proof shield and revolving number plate, marks the 50th anniversary of the film.
Special Jaguar D-Type race
It's the 60th anniversary of the Jaguar D-Type this year, so to commemorate the anniversary 23 of them will be racing around the Goodwood circuit in the special Lavant Cup. Ex Jaguar Le Mans winner Andy Wallace will compete in a 1955 ‘long-nose’ D-Type.
