The 2019 Toyota RAV4 debuts tomorrow at the New York auto show. But one last teaser gives away much of what we can expect to see on the next version of Toyota’s most popular vehicle in the U.S.
In this four-second video, we can see the RAV4’s new grille undisguised. Oddly enough, it reminds us a lot of the grille on the Toyota Tacoma. It seems Toyota is planning a more rugged look for the new compact crossover.

Late last year, Toyota debuted the FT-AC Concept, which was thought to preview the new RAV4. We do notice the headlights on the concept resemble those we see in this teaser video. It will be interesting to find out if the RAV4 adopts some of the concept’s bolder design cues such as the large fender flares and skidplates.
The RAV4 will sit on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) that should improve ride quality and handling. We expect it will receive a naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine that provides more juice than the current model’s 176 hp. It’s likely Toyota will replace the current six-speed automatic with a new eight-speed unit. A hybrid version should continue on for the new generation as well.
As we wait for tomorrow, check out the history of the Toyota RAV4 here.
