Although crossovers are starting to dominate the auto industry, the midsize sedan segment is more competitive than ever. Honda just introduced a stellar new Accord, and the 2018 Toyota Camry is another new and viable contender. Now, Nissan is raising the stakes with a new generation of the Altima.
The sixth-generation 2019 Nissan Altima will debut at the New York auto show on March 28. This week, Nissan released a promising but radical sketch of the new model. While it undoubtedly exaggerates the design, it suggests the new Altima could feature a large V-Motion grille, narrow headlights, aggressive front cut-outs, and a planted overall stance.
The sketch hints at Nissan’s design language for future sedans, the automaker says. At this time, Nissan hasn’t released any more information on the Altima leading up to the reveal.
We suspect the new Altima will feature at least one efficiency-minded downsized turbocharged engine. It’s also likely to receive Nissan’s ProPilot Assist safety technology. This helps control acceleration, braking, and steering in stop-and-go traffic in single-lane highway driving.
When we drove the Altima after its last refresh, we were impressed with the improvements to the CVT and cabin noise. And although it doesn’t look quite as old as it is, we hope the new model receives an updated infotainment system and a few tweaks all around to keep it fresh in the segment.
