The EPA has released official fuel economy numbers for the 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid on its website. Revised for 2018 along with the rest of the Accord lineup, the Accord Hybrid nets 47/47/47 mpg city/highway/combined, less than the 49/47/48 mpg rating of last year’s model.
The 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid uses a new generation two-motor hybrid powertrain system. A 2.0-liter engine offers improved thermal efficiency over the one in last year’s model. This engine is paired to two electric drive motors that are the first in the world to use permanent magnets with no heavy rare-earth metals. The intelligent power unit, which houses the battery pack and its control systems, is now more compact and is mounted under the rear floor instead of in the trunk. The entire system helps the model achieve a total output of 212 hp.
Unfortunately for Honda, Toyota has the Accord Hybrid beat when it comes to fuel economy, at least in one trim. The 2018 Toyota Camry Hybrid tops out at 51/53/52 mpg city/highway combined in LE form. However, the Accord wins out over the 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid, which is rated 43/41/42 mpg. Meanwhile, the 2018 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid nets 49/43/46 mpg.
Fuel economy on non-hybrid Accords varies by the trim level chosen. But it maxes out at 30/38/33 mpg. The regular Accord has been on sale since last year, and we expect the Accord Hybrid to arrive soon.
