Toyota released a teaser image of what is likely the new Tacoma TRD Pro ahead of the Chicago auto show, which takes place later this week.
The automaker says it’s “heating up the Windy City with a world premiere” on Thursday, February 11. Judging from the Toyota badge on the grille and the aggressive hood scoop, it’s hard to imagine the new vehicle being anything other than the Tacoma TRD Pro.
As we know by now, Toyota didn’t release a new TRD Pro when it brought out the all-new 2016 Tacoma late last year. When the new version comes to market, the Tacoma TRD Pro will accompany the Tundra TRD Pro and 4Runner TRD Pro.
The 2015 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro featured a 4.0-liter V-6 engine capable of producing 236 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. The TRD Pro came paired with either a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. Upgrades included Bilstein shocks, 16-inch beadlock rims wrapped in BF Goodrich all-terrain tires, a cat-back exhaust, and unique design touches inside the cabin. The new Tacoma TRD is likely to stay true to the outgoing model, just like the standard Tacoma did to its predecessor. Instead of the 4.0-liter though, expect the TRD Pro to get the new 3.5-liter V-6, perhaps massaged to make more than the standard Tacoma’s 278 hp.
We’ll find out more about the new Toyota truck at the Chicago auto show in a few days.
