These are the latest pictures of the third-generation Mini Convertible, which has been spotted undergoing testing ahead of its planned on-sale date early next year.
The soft-top Mini will be the final of four models to launch in the new Mini lineup, following the three-door and five-door hatchback, and the new Clubman.
Like the other models in the range, the Mini Convertible is based on the versatile UKL1 platform. The car retains the folding soft-top roof and four-seat cabin of the previous generation, though updates to the interior to bring it in line with the hatchback are expected.
The light camouflage on this test mule hides styling changes which reflect those found on the new hatchback. More distinctive front and rear end designs will give the convertible a stronger look, while the large circular headlights make the car recognisable as a Mini.
Spotted for the first time with its soft-top roof down, new details including a wind deflector can be seen in these pictures. The car shown here looks to be the Cooper S model, characterised by its twin central exhaust outlet.
Engines will likely mirror those of the hatchback, meaning 1.5- and 2.0-litre petrol units alongside a 1.5-litre diesel. Each option will be turbocharged, employ a stop/start system and will meet Euro 6 emissions regulations. Other powerplant options are likely to follow further in the car's life cycle.
The Mini Convertible will be revealed towards the end of 2015, but won't go on sale until the first quarter of next year.
