Skoda has released the first design sketch of its new Superb, which will make its debut in February of next year before going on display at the Geneva motor show in March.
Taking design inspiration from the VisionC concept car, Skoda says the new Superb offers "striking, expressive shapes" and will aim to make "a visual impact in the automotive mid-class segment."
Autocar has already driven the new, third-generation Superb in late-stage prototype form. The model will be used to entice new buyers to the Czech brand when it goes on sale in the UK next autumn.
Measuring 20mm longer and 50mm wider than the outgoing car, the new Superb offers improved torsional rigidity and a kerb weight that's 75kg lighter than its predecessor. Key rivals for the Superb include Ford's new Mondeo and the Vauxhall Insignia.
Power will come from a range of Euro-6 emissions compliant engines, ranging from a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol with 123bhp to a 2.0-litre unit with 276bhp. Three diesel engines, with up to 188bhp, will also be available alongside the option of both two and four-wheel drive.
Official economy figures for all of the engines have yet to be revealed, but we do know the 1.6-litre TDI Greenline model will come with a headline-grabbing figure of 96g/km CO2 emissions.
