We presented this week’s shifter on Monday and asked you to identify the make and model of the vehicle whence it came. The first commenter to correctly identify it as a Saab 9-2x was repeat winner Icculus.
The Saab 9-2x shown here was featured in our July 2004 issue. In what is one of history’s more bizarre mashups, the little wagon was essentially a rebadged Subaru WRX. At the time, GM had a 100 percent equity share in Saab and a 20 percent share in Subaru. Thus was born the 9-2x. It may have been strange, but with the same 227-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter flat-four, five-speed manual, and all-wheel-drive system from the WRX, the 9-2x was unquestionably fun to drive.
