The 2020 Tacoma isn’t the only product Toyota is cooking up for the Chicago auto show. The Japanese automaker will also debut a new TRD Pro model, although it isn’t saying which vehicle will get the special off-road treatment.
Toyota has released a few teasers, but they’re pretty vague. In one image, we can see the side of the vehicle and its large tire. Toyota also released a video that reveals the grille, but not much else.

However, there are only a few vehicles it could be. Toyota already has the Tacoma, Tundra, and 4Runner in its TRD Pro lineup. And it stands to reason Toyota would only introduce the variant on a model that is off-road-capable to begin with. That leaves the Sequoia and Land Cruiser as the two most likely candidates.
Toyota says the new vehicle will be “leading the charge for a host of updates across the TRD Pro lineup.” Toyota just updated its TRD Pro lineup at last year’s Chicago auto show, bringing Fox shocks to the 4Runner and Tundra variants, and a Desert Air Intake to the Tacoma, among other updates.
We’re even more eager to see an updated Tacoma at the show. Judging from a teaser image, it looks like the truck will receive new headlights, but that’s about all we can tell at this point. The Tacoma didn’t perform so well in our recent midsize truck comparison test, so we’re excited to see how Toyota has changed things up for the new model year.
We’ll learn more at Toyota’s press conference on February 7 in Chicago.
