Toyota is debuting a special TRD Off-Road version of the RAV4 at the Chicago Auto Show this week. The beefed-up crossover receives an improved suspension, black exterior trim, and other updates from the standard model.
Toyota took its learnings from the Rally RAV4 race team to create this new model. The suspension features twin-tube shocks that have been re-valved and have new internal rebound springs, plus new bump stops to improve body control over large bumps. The 2020 Toyota RAV4 TRD Off-Road receives 18-inch TRD wheels painted in black, complemented by Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail all-terrain tires that are Severe Snow Rated.
Like the standard RAV4, it features a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated inline-four with 203 hp. Power is routed through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The RAV4 TRD Off-Road builds off the sporty Adventure trim in many ways. Both models have an increased ground clearance of 8.6 inches and can tow a maximum of 3,500 pounds. The two models also share similar grille designs and fog light surrounds. The new model’s high-rise roof rails, bumper design, and large over-fenders are also inspired by the Adventure grade.
A number of exterior colors are available, and buyers can even choose to have the roof painted a different color from the rest of the body. One combination is Magnetic Gray Metallic with an Ice Edge Roof, although buyers can also get the model in Midnight Black or Lunar Rock with the same roof color. Other colors include Ruby Flare Pearl and Super White.
Inside the cabin, you’ll find synthetic leather seats with TRD badges on the headrests. Red stitching adorns the cabin, while red accents can also be seen in the center console area. TRD all-weather floor mats and a rear cargo mat also come as part of the deal.
The 2020 Toyota RAV4 TRD Off-Road arrives this fall.
