Toyota will reveal two vehicles at the opposite ends of the size spectrum during the Frankfurt Motor Show this September. The new Land Cruiser will make its world premiere alongside a special C-HR concept.
Unfortunately, Toyota is saying very little on what to expect from the new large SUV. But rest assured it will maintain its body-on-frame construction that separates it from the sea of crossovers on the market. “The new Land Cruiser will take you wherever you want to go. And bring you back,” Toyota says cryptically in a press release.
The current-generation Land Cruiser debuted for the 2008 model year here in the U.S. As we noted in our most recent review, the model has aged gracefully and continues to impress with its smooth powertrain, controlled ride, and exceptional off-road capability. The SUV features a 5.7-liter V-8 engine producing 381 hp, enough to go from 0-60 mph in 6.8 seconds, according to Motor Trend tests.
Toyota will also reveal a C-HR design concept vehicle in Frankfurt. Judging from this teaser image, a future C-HR model could feature a more aggressive design than the standard version, and possibly increased performance. “Its intention is to emphasize C-HR’s emotional and powerful look, while hinting at future expansion of Toyota’s hybrid powertrain line up within its core models,” the automaker says. Toyota already has a hybrid C-HR in global markets, so it will be interesting to find out what the company has up its sleeves with this model, dubbed the C-HR Hy-Power concept.
The new Land Cruiser and C-HR concept will drop September 12 just ahead of the Frankfurt Motor Show.
