The warm 308 GT was revealed at the Paris motor show last OctoberPeugeot confirms new range-topping 308 variant will appear at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later this month
Peugeot has confirmed plans to enter the hot hatchback arena with a new GTi version of its 308 hatchback.
The Peugeot 308 GTi, which will line up alongside the likes of the Ford Focus ST and Volkswagen Golf GTI, will make its world debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed at the end of its month. It will take part in the 'First Glance' section at the end of Goodwood's Supercar Run throughout the weekend.
No details or specifications of the new model have been confirmed yet, but sources have previously revealed to Autocar that the 308 GTi will be good for 150mph. Power will come from the storming 266bhp 1.6-litre THP turbo four from the RCZ-R sports coupé.
The 308 GTi will join Peugeot's hot hatch range alongside the 208 GTI. The new model is tipped to have a similar relationship to the mildly sporty 202bhp 308 GT, launched last year, as the RCZ GT coupé does to the go-faster RCZ-R.
The GTI will hit showrooms later this year, priced from around £25,000. It is believed likely to offer much of the GT’s special equipment — LED lights, sports seats and even sportier settings for its MacPherson strut, torsion beam suspension set-up.
The world debut of the 308 GTi will be one of several sporty models Peugeot will have on show over the Goodwood weekend.
It will star alongside the 308 R Hybrid concept car, the 493bhp four-wheel drive special that made its debut at the Shanghai motor show in April. Some of the firms most potent current race cars - including the 2008 DKR Dakar Rally car and the 308 WRX World Rallycross Championship challenger.
