There aren’t many cars that will outpace the Jaguar F-Type R, the 550-hp, AWD coupe from Coventry. But when this particular F-Type R coupe is put to service, it’ll look like it’s standing still—next to the Bloodhound SSC, a rocket-and-jet-powered land speed car aiming to break the 1000-mph barrier.
Every good race team needs a pit vehicle, and Jaguar bedecked this F-Type R in a livery to match Andy Green’s pointy speed machine. The blue and orange Jag will debut at Coventry MotoFest before joining the Bloodhound team in the attempt at breaking the 1000-mph barrier in a wheeled vehicle.
-This isn’t the first time Jaguar and Bloodhound have paired up: In announcing the addition of AWD to the F-Type R, Jaguar demonstrated the fastback’s prowess by running it head-on toward a speeding jet flying low over a dry lake in South Africa. It was a scintillating display of power, to be sure—but it was also a test to see how Bloodhound’s radio equipment would perform at high speed. The car and the plane both carried radios, rushing toward each other at a combined speed nearing 700 mph.

Driver Andy Green will attempt the 1000-mph record run this summer, with the Jaguar in tow. We imagine Wing Commander Green will find the Jag pretty dull by comparison.
