Fiat is planning to break into the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra marketFiat plans a new family of Ford Focus challengers, with the first model due to be revealed later this month
This heavily disguised prototype is the first of Fiat’s new family of models pitched at the Ford Focus sector. It is a four-door saloon and will be unveiled at the Istanbul motor show on 22 May.
It directly replaces the aging Linea saloon, which is based on the Grande Punto and is aimed mainly at central and eastern European and Mediterranean markets.
It will be followed later this year by a five-door hatchback. An estate version is expected to arrive next year.
Little information has leaked out about the new models, but they are understood to be based on the same platform as the current Fiat 500L MPV and will be built in Turkey. The transmissions will mirror those of the 500L. The styling of the hatchback shows a strong family resemblance to the current Grande Punto.
It’s also thought these new - and as yet unnamed - models will emphasise exceptional interior space and overall practicality. They are likely to be cheaper than typical C-segment rivals.
Although Fiat sources have already said the Bravo replacement will not be priced low enough to be seen as a Dacia competitor, it should be notably less expensive than a Focus or a Vauxhall Astra.
