-Our spy photographers have uncovered a Buick Regal testing with new “CNG” badges. We’d assume that the Regal pictured here is powered by compressed natural gas, although the only visible clues that this Buick is powered by anything other than gasoline are the CNG badge on the decklid and the required “CNG” warning sticker.

Those badges suggest that the Regal is headed for GM’s factory-prepped CNG fleet catalog. While some automakers offer CNG prep packages that set a car up to be converted to run on natural gas, leaving the actual conversion to a third party, GM actually sells fully converted cars to fleet customers. (Dubbed “Bi Fuel” models, these cars can run on both gasoline and natural gas.) The vehicles include commercial-grade fare such as the Chevy Express/GMC Savana vans (yes, those still exist), as well as HD versions of the the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra. There is also a Bi-Fuel CNG Chevrolet Impala. Perhaps General Motors is thinking of adding a smaller car model to its CNG lineup.

For reference, the Bi-Fuel Impala uses a V-6 engine, while this Buick prototype—again, based on its badging—looks to use the Regal’s turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. But like we said, those are just the badges talking.
