Lamborghini is preparing a lightweight Superleggera version of the HuracánLightweight Lamborghini Huracán planned, with mild styling changes and small power gains expected
These are the first spy pictures of Lamborghini’s Huracán Superleggera, which could come to market as early as next year.
Most striking about this prototype are the hidden single exhausts at the rear. Covered with wire mesh, the exhausts are in the same position as those on Lamborghini’s Huracán GT3 racer, although dummy units still exist in the same place as on the standard car.
The stickers on this prototype also reveal that Lamborghini is working with carbonfibre specialists Becker Carbon. That means it’s likely that carbonfibre will be used to reduce the weight of the Huracán. The current Huracán has a dry weight of 1422kg.
It’s also expected that Lamborghini will make modest power gains from the Huracán’s 5.2-litre V10 engine, which produces 601bhp and 413lb ft in the standard car - enough to get the Huracán to 62mph in 3.2sec and to a top speed of 202mph.
Rivals such as Audi’s R8 V10 Plus are offering increasingly advanced competition for the Huracán - the R8’s 5.2-litre V10 engine produces the same power output as the Huracan, but the car has a higher top speed, at 205mph.
McLaren’s 675LT, meanwhile, offers 666bhp from its 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, while the Ferrari 488GTB gets 562bhp from its twin-turbocharged 3.9-litre V8 engine.
As far back as last year, Lamborghini bosses readily admitted that more variants of its Gallardo replacement were in the pipeline. Among the planned models is a Huracán Spyder, which is expected later this year, and a new rear-wheel-drive version.
