Dodge fired up the Viper faithful when it rolled out the ACR concept at the 2014 SEMA show. Now a report by the fervid Mopar-watchers at Allpar.com claims that the ultimate track tamer is headed for production this summer.
The ACR concept boasts an extreme aerodynamics package—rendered mostly in carbon fiber—including a giant rear wing (natch), a broad front splitter, and louvered air extractors in the front fenders. It rolls on lightweight, 19-inch wheels, behind which are 15.4-inch, two-piece carbon-ceramic brake discs and six-piston Brembo calipers. The all-business interior dispenses with the carpeting, stereo, and sound-deadening while ramping up the carbon fiber and the faux suede.
Should the ACR get the green flag, it would muscle into the lineup above Viper’s most track-focused current offering, the recently introduced TA (“Time Attack”) 2.0 Special Edition. Priced at $101,995, the TA 2.0 comes with its own aero kit, 18-/19-inch wheels (front/rear), two-piece Brembo rotors, and Pirelli P Zero Corsa rubber. Or it could supersede the TA 2.0, production of which is said to be capped at just 96 units.

The ACR designation last graced a Viper in 2010, and the street-legal extreme machine set a Nürburging lap time of 7:12.13. That was with the previous-generation car’s 8.4-liter V-10, which made 600 horsepower and 560 lb-ft. Today’s Viper extracts an additional 45 ponies and 40 lb-ft of torque from the 10-banger, so a new ACR should be able to beat that figure. Here’s hoping it gets the chance.
