Some of us get bitten by the new-car bug fairly often. The symptoms are constantly surfing the web, asking friends for advice, and spending the weekend at dealerships examining and test-driving a plethora of cars. The search is part of the fun, and it gets better for those of us in the market for a premium model. We get pampered.
But others would rather skip the whole process and turn straight to trusted sources of lifestyle advice. That’s where stuff like the annual Christmas catalog of the department store chain Neiman Marcus comes in, as it has a history of offering special versions of vehicles among its collection of exotic gifts.
This year, prospective buyers get a chance to purchase one of 100 units of a special 100th Anniversary edition Maserati Ghibli S Q4. Priced at $95,000, it costs $18,900 more than the model on which it is based. But it packs so much extra equipment that the premium is almost neutralized.
Among the features included in the all-wheel-drive, 404-horsepower sedan are the gray exterior paint, brown leather interior, Bowers & Wilkins stereo system, and a season-appropriate winter package with heated windshield nozzles, heated front and rear seats, and a heated steering wheel. Designed to commemorate Maserati’s 100th birthday, this Ghibli is fitted with bespoke wheel centers and a numbered plaque placed on the center console.

Neiman Marcus promises an extraordinary driving experience to its Maserati customers, who will be able to transport their holiday cargo at up to 175 mph. “Ubiquitous German luxury sedans become mere traffic in your presence,” the Christmas Book gushes. This presumably includes the various BMW models offered by the shopping chain in the past.
