Earlier this year, Toyota revealed the 2019 Corolla Hatchback as a replacement for the Scion iM it had recently rebadged as a Toyota. Our First Test showed it actually had some sporty handling to back up its more aggressive new look, as well as a much better interior. But ever since we got our first look at the Corolla hatch, we’ve been wondering when the TNGA-based sedan would show up. After all, the current Corolla is extremely outdated. As it turns out, we’ll get to see the new Corolla sedan in only a few days.
Today, Toyota released the teaser image shown above, along with a confirmation that it will reveal the North American version of the Corolla sedan on Thursday, November 15. This news comes after Toyota announced last week that the global version of the Corolla sedan would be revealed at the Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition in China on November 16.
Running the image through Photoshop, we’re able to get a pretty clear view of the new Corolla’s front end. As you’d expect, the headlights appear to be the same as the ones Toyota used on the Corolla hatch. The bumper, however, looks pretty different. Instead of keeping the hexagon-ish shape of the hatchback’s grille, the sedan’s grille is more of a trapezoid. Beyond that, there isn’t much to see. Look for more significant changes to the rear end since, you know, that’s where Toyota had to turn the hatch into a trunk.
We also expect the sedan to stick with the hatchback’s 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder making 168 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. We’d like to think the hatch’s six-speed manual will be an option on the sedan, too, but there are no guarantees we’ll get anything other than a CVT.
