Ford is recalling approximately 451,865 2010-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan sedans in North America for a potential issue with the fuel tank.
The Problem: On certain vehicles, the canister purge valve may not function properly. This affects internal pressure inside the fuel tank, which could eventually result in a crack in the top of the fuel tank. A spark near the fuel leak could lead to a fire. No accidents, injuries, or fires related to the issue have been reported.
The Fix: Ford will contact owners to bring their affected vehicles to the dealer for a powertrain control module (PCM) update and inspect the canister purge valve and fuel tank. If a leak is discovered, the dealer will replace affected parts.
Number of Potentially Affected Vehicles: The recall affects approximately 451,865 2010-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan sedans. A total of 411,205 units are located in the U.S., 33,605 units in Canada, and 7,055 units in Mexico.
