AGYA CLUB INDONESIA : New Volkswagen Bulli to go on sale this year

The new T6 Bulli will be built in Hanover

New T6 Bulli will be seen in Amsterdam next month before going on sale in the UK later this year, with looks inspired by 2014's Tristar concept

A new version of the Volkswagen Bulli van will go on sale in the UK before the end of the year, the company has confirmed.

Scheduled to make its debut in Amsterdam next month, the new Bulli will come with styling closely informed by 2014’s Tristar concept. The interior of that model is understood to be almost identical to that of the production Bulli.

Power for the four-wheel-drive Tristar came from a 201bhp 2.0-litre TDI diesel connected to a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.

A concept version of the Bulli was also shown in Geneva in 2011, but that model is less related to the new T6 model. The concept measured 3.99 metres long, and offered seating for six inside. Power came from a 114bhp electric motor, which gave the concept a top speed of 87mph and a 0-62mph time of 11.5sec. The concept had an electric range of 186 miles.

Full details on engine options and specifications will be announced in the run-up to the Bulli’s debut. The new model will be built in Hanover, and is likely to be based on VW Group’s MQB platform.

This year marks the 65th anniversary of the Bulli, with the first-generation model going into production in 1950, having been designed in 1947. Just 10 vehicles were manufactured per day at Volkswagen’s plant in Wolfsburg initially, but more than 8000 models had been built by the end of the Bulli’s first year in production.
