The Lagonda was first seen in concept form at the Geneva motor show in 2009
High-riding four-seater GT will be shown at the Geneva motor show
Aston Martin will unveil a crossover concept at the Geneva motor show today, Autocar has learned.
New boss Andy Palmer is set to announce details of his product plan in the Aston press conference alongside unveils of the Vantage GT3 and Vulcan, and confirmation of the Lagonda Taraf saloon for sale in markets including Europe.
But the confirmation of an SUV - or perhaps even an early look at it - is set to steal the headlines for Aston.
According to well placed sources Palmer is set to reveal that Aston must expand beyond its core GT and sports car business in the future, and a crossover-style, high-riding four-seat GT car will be at the heart of that.
It's six years since Aston revealed an SUV concept car called Lagonda at the Geneva show, a great shock at the time.
Since then luxury SUV sales have boomed, and rival manufacturers have cashed in, leaving Aston behind.
However that is now set to change with the confirmation of an Aston SUV in the future product plan.
It could again wear the Lagonda badge, something Aston has given a soft relaunch to by naming its limited run luxury saloon Lagonda Taraf.
The previous Lagonda SUV was Mercedes GL based, and the new model could again be, after Daimler bough a 5% stake in Aston as part of a deal to supply engines and other components to its future products.
