Move over, SRX. Cadillac’s mid-size crossover is the brand’s bestselling vehicle, but it’s about to be replaced by the new XT5. Now Cadillac has just released the first official pictures of the pouting, preening ingenue, fashionably decked out in all black and photographed on the cobblestone streets of its new hometown, New York. (Of course, we had previously spied the new model completely uncovered in the Big Apple.)
- -Okay, so the XT5 is no supermodel. But, design-wise at least, it does seem to take itself more seriously than its predecessor. First of all, the XT5 appears larger and wider. Up front is a more intricately detailed, broader grille; the headlights are not as tall, but it does adopt Cadillac’s large, blade-like DRLs. The side view shows a longer greenhouse, a more level beltline, and a less sloping roofline. Elimination of the front fender trim, and solid-style roof rails help clean up the look. The rear view again emphasizes width. The rear window is more rectangular, the trim above the license plate is wider, and the taillights are shorter, while a gray trim panel wraps up from underneath onto the bumper, which also integrates the more horizontally shaped exhaust outlets.

From any angle, we’d say the design is an improvement over the somewhat gawky SRX. We’ll know more about how the XT5’s dimensions compare to the SRX—as well as other details of the new Caddy—come November. That’s when the new model makes its official debut, which takes place at the Dubai motor show. How worldly!
