The case could be made that the Willys-Overland Jeepster is the seminal beach car. And if you’re headed to the Hamptons, Nantucket, or some other beach locale this summer, this pristine 1950 Jeepster is just about the ideal ride.
-The Willys-Overland Jeepster was an evolution of the original Jeep designed for military use. After WWII, Willys-Overland, Jeep’s parent company, launched the CJ (civilian Jeep) line of vehicles in an attempt to offer a mass-market version of its military Jeep. In 1948 the Jeepster was introduced.

Over the course of the original Jeepster’s short initial production run from 1948 to 1950 (the model was revived in the late 1960s), it could be equipped with a variety of four- and six-cylinder engines. This particular example, known as a VJ 473, is powered by a 2.2-liter four-cylinder “Go Devil” engine making 63 horsepower. The seller states that this Jeepster went through an extensive and expensive restoration and currently has about 26,000 miles on the odometer. Although the $42,500 price tag is rich compared with the truck’s 1950 MSRP of $1500 or so, you’re not likely to find anything cooler at the beach this summer.
