At the close of Super Bowl XLIX, Chevy did its traditional thing, handing the keys to a brand new Colorado pickup to Patriots MVP Tom Brady. But on his victory press tour, Brady got cajoled by Boston sports radio’s Dennis & Callahan into saying he’d give the truck to Pats defensive back Malcolm Butler. Today, he made good on the offer.
In the week after the Super Bowl, Pats quarterback Tom Brady was riding high. But appearing on Boston’s WEEI for a post-game interview, he wasn’t too royal to receive some good-natured ribbing.
“You think we can convince you to give him the truck?” the sportscasters asked. They were referring, of course, to Patriots defensive back Malcolm Butler, whose heart-in-your-throat interception with 20 seconds left on the clock sealed the Patriots’ victory when it looked like it was about to crumble.
“I can’t see you driving around in a red truck,” the hosts implore just one minute into the radio interview.
“I would love to give him the truck,” Brady replied. “I’m going to figure out how to make that work.”
Fast forward to today: At a Chevy dealership in Norwood, Massachusetts, the 24-year-old Butler received the red pickup Brady promised. It’s a fitting totem of thanks to the player whose lightning-quick interception drew his rookie season to a close with the most prized victory the NFL can offer: A Super Bowl win.

It’s a win-win: Butler gets a much-deserved trophy for his game-winning play, and Chevy gets to squeeze one more goodwill photo op out of the desiccated husk of Super Bowl XLIX.
And Tom Brady doesn’t have to figure out what to do with a $30,000 pickup truck he definitely wasn’t going to actually drive.
