Toyota 86 With an R35 GT-R V-6 Puts Down 1,000 HP

If you’re chomping at the bit to see Ryan Tuerck’s Ferrari-powered Toyota 86, we’ve got the perfect stop-gap to tide you over until that build is completed. This 86 might have two-fewer cylinders than the 4.5-liter V-8 in Tuerck’s “JDM supercar,” but under the hood beats the twin-turbo V-6 from the R35 Nissan GT-R.

According to the build page, this 86 began life as a “mild” street/track car before blossoming into the 1,000-hp missile it is today. Australia’s StreetFX started with a turbo build on the stock FA20 flat-four engine, which was sending 545 hp to the rear wheels before it was swapped out.

The owner decided to slot in the VR38DETT because tuning the FA past 21 psi didn’t result in any additional gains. The 3.8-liter V-6 was stroked to 4.1 liters fitted with a heavy-duty build package from HKS, pushing the total output to over 1,000 hp.

Engine height was an issue due to the different layouts, so the front differential was ditched and a lower-profile sump was installed, cutting six inches from the total height. A six-speed sequential transmission was sourced, routing the power to a rear differential yanked from a Mustang.

With so much power in such a small package, the so-called StreetFX WTF86 is hardly the perfect daily driver, but the owner has plans. He says he hopes for a combination of time attack, some street use, and “roll racing.”

Check out the full build details of the 1,000-hp, GT-R-engined WTF86 on the build page here.
